“I really loved the whole experience with the stories and knowledge about the culture and traditions, the huge huge variety of the collections of which I found several items very relateable at a personal level, and then to the end, the food and drinks were simply Mashallah. Big kudos to the fantastic hosts.

“It was a very insightful trip. I learned interesting sides of Emirati culture and found many similarities with Kazakh traditions according to the talk. I think this is because Kazakhs led a Nomadic lifestyle before in the same way as Arabs were bedouins.

I would say I took not only a physical tour but also a historical tour back to old times.
“The Knot helped me learn so much about the Emirati culture. It felt like stepping into another time. It was absolutely wonderful seeing things preserved from years before, learning the stories behind and the culture. And the food was exquisite.

As a group of Indigenous people from the country now known as Australia, we found the cultural exchange the highlight of our time in the UAE, simply for creating connections and realizing our cultural similarities. The food we experienced as a part of our experience was divine - thank you Umm Yosef for hosting us in your beautiful home. We have made friends for life through just one day together. Sanna we celebrate you, Munna and Mohsen for creating a unique opportunity to form a relationship with your Country and her peoples. We will treasure our day with you for our lifetimes.
“"I think this past event has been one of my favorite events the GEOs have prepared for the visiting students. Not only were we transported to different decades by looking at the very valuable archives of [Umm al Yusuf], but we also found resemblances to our own cultures and upbringings. This event allowed me to be closer to the Emirati culture as well as to the NYU community after reflecting on our experiences thus far, especially during Ramadan. This community aspect was further emphasized as we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal and the best Luqaimat I have had so far!"

“We went to the Emirati House and were given a tour. They told us many exciting things about Emirati culture and history. The place itself is very interesting: it shows how people used to live in this region, what household items they used, how they were taking rest, etc. The collection of different items from the past is amazing. That was a great experience!
